Wages paid only in NSW

A business pays $2,000,000 of taxable wages in NSW for the full year and none elsewhere. It gets the full $1,200,000 threshold, so tax is 5.45% of $800,000: about $43,600 for the year.

Wages paid in NSW and Queensland

A business pays $1,800,000 in NSW and $600,000 in Queensland, so $2,400,000 in Australia. NSW is 75% of that, so its NSW threshold is $900,000. NSW tax is 5.45% of $900,000: about $49,050. Queensland payroll tax is worked out separately; the estimator above shows both.
